Story
Hi everyone,
As some of you may be aware, my nephew Freddie was recently diagnosed with Kawasaki Disease.
I have decided to run the Sydney Blackmore’s half marathon and raise funds to help find the cause of a disease that doesn’t get much attention and can have devastating effects if not treated early.
Kawasaki Disease is the leading cause of acquired childhood heart disease. There is a great deal of research happening to identify the cause, although the organism that causes the disease has not been identified.
There are only around 200 diagnoses in Australia per year.
Early symptoms of Kawasaki disease include:
Fever that can lasts for several days
Rash, can be over whole body and may be worse in the groin area
Red eyes - no discharge
Bright red, swollen, cracked lips
Red tongue (strawberry like)
Swollen hands and feet
Redness of the palms and soles of the feet
Swollen lymph node in the neck
The Kawasaki Disease Foundation Australia is dedicated to advancing Kawasaki Disease issues, and strives to raise awareness of this serious illness to increase early detection and treatment for children, including assistance with research studies. The KD Foundation Australia also provides much needed information and is a great support for affected families.

We provide education, information and support to families affected by Kawasaki Disease as well as assisting professionals who provide services to families affected by Kawasaki Disease.
We also raise funds for and participate in research studies into this mysterious disease.
The Foundation strives to educate the wider community about Kawasaki Disease in order to assist with early diagnosis and treatment.
